A very nice Forge Folded Katana by Howard Clark, with custom fittings by Patrick Hastings. The black and gold colors of the handle and fittings are accented with soft gold mist on a black saya. The habaki is forged copper with a gold wash.

Howard Clark ceased making these forge folded blades a couple of years ago. The blend of 1095 and 1005 composition originated as a 400 layer billet from Darryl Meiers which Howard Clark then further folded to his liking. This steel is quite durable, very pretty, and has a bright luster about it. The hamon is full of interesting activities and lively interaction with the grain.

The fittings were made for the sword by Patrick Hastings and illustrate Humming Birds among hanging flowers and tendrils. They are hancarved of brass that has been blackened to give the contrast.

The saya and handle core are constructed of Alder, with micarta furniture for strength and durability. The black lacquered same is fully wrapped with doubled and concealed (maedarekise) seam. Black leather ito completes the handle.

A wonderful sword for the practioner or collector.
