Rick Barrett Katana

The second of two current Barrett works available, this sword is in shirasaya and ready for mounting or enjoyment as is. Rick Barrett works in a variety of steel mediums and this sword is one of his monosteel works. Monosteel blades make a good choice for a more economical approach to a working blade and are tough, resilient swords. While they lack the characteristic hada, or grain of a forged folded or pattern welded work, they can exhibit a lively, bright yakiba that gives plenty of enjoyment.

This sword is 1075 monosteel. The cutting edge measures 28 3/8 inches with torisori. It is 1 3/8 inches wide and 5/16 inch thick at the munemachi. The hamon is midare with some togari, and nice ashi reaching toward the edge. Small yo are also seen. The boshi is maru with some slight midare. The habaki is a lovely two-piece gold and silver foiled with motif of ocean waves. The shirasaya is in good condition and made of Alder.

A very nice sword for the practioner or collector ready to mount or enjoy as is.
